Designing an identity for research that you barely understand yourself is a challenging task to undertake. 

This proposal was being sent to a European Union research and innovation programme in a bid to secure funding, and required something visual that could summarise the essence of the research while giving the printed proposal an edge. 
The proposal’s suggested application of the research involved
artificially intelligent drone-like units that would operate as
part of a larger 'hive' of units. 
A murmuration is free flowing, continuously adapting and evolving.
All of the characteristics that the researchers were trying to express.
 
In terms of a visual solution, the identity itself is not intended
to be static. Ideally it would be different every time it is applied
to something, just as a real murmuration would. To reflect the real occurrence of murmurations, the colour palette was kept to a
dark grey / black or light grey / white for reversed options
appearing simply as visual ‘noise’ when dramatically reduced.
